Long time no hear
It has been a long time since we last posted but it has been a very busy few months in respect of supporting the communities of Braunstone Town and Leicester Forest East. The meetings of the respective Councils continue to be held via Zoom which is a format that I personally quite like. We have been busy recruiting another team member and I am pleased to say that Jude has joined our unique team. We are actively looking to recruit an additional team member to work evenings, so if you are looking to join a diverse and friendly team based on the Branstone Town/Leicester Forest East border please drop us a line. We look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes

Coronavirus Lockdown Project
Coronavirus
Lockdown Project
It has been
an unusually warm day today looking promising for the first bank holiday in May.
According to the weather forecast it will be raining by Saturday. Therefore, I
made a good use of the weather by working on my Coronavirus lockdown project.
Keep following this channel to learn more.
Time
passed by so quickly that I forgot to eat my lunch and went for a walk with a
cracker in my hand when my support worker Monika arrived. We walked 2 miles or
more and together with the exercise I did in my garden working on my project, I
had a good work out without entering the gym.
With
regards to council business, I continue to liaise with Leicestershire Police
and other service providers working towards resolving issues across my ward of
Braunstone Town.
If I can
be of service to you, please don’t hesitate to contact me via email

Zooming Ahead…….
With us now being in full lockdown mode my team and I continue to train and improve our techniques in respect of video conferencing for remote working as per the government guidelines.
Last week I took part in the Policy and Resources Committee meeting of Braunstone Town Council via Zoom. The main topic on the agenda was Braunstone Town Covid-19 response.
It was an interesting experience which lasted a couple of hours. Surprisingly, a virtual meeting was easier for me to follow than the meeting in the council chamber as it was more controlled. Oftentimes Councillors have a tendency to talk over one another instead of allowing the speaking Councillor to finish expressing their opinion. In this instance I was able to express my opinion without anyone else speaking over me because their microphones were muted.
I look forward to more virtual meetings in the future because from a disability managed perspective such meetings allow me to contribute more freely without other Councillors talking over me or interrupting me without a good reason. Therefore I am able to serve my Parishioners better.

Blink and You’ll Miss It – 13/3/2020
Blink and You’ll Miss It – 13/3/2020
It’s Friday 13th March 2020.
I’m a Survivor of Physical, Mental and
Sexual Abuse. I didn’t sleep very well last night due to vivid flashbacks to
the abusive past. I slept with the night light on and the bedroom door open in
a bid to help me sleep. I experienced a seizure in the course of the night and daybreak
arrived. I love the sound of the birds singing first thing in the morning. The
birds singing to welcome in a new start to the day.
I sustained a fall in the bathroom before Support
Worker Claire arrived and I had difficulty dressing myself (some of the many daily
challenges I experience living with a brain injury disability). Support Worker
Claire and I did some admin and did some preparation work for payroll next
week. There’s more to do this time of year due to the fast-approaching financial
year end.
Claire and I attended the gym although I had
a lot of difficulty with my balance and coordination. Claire keeps me in line,
telling me off when I do too much and ensures that I remain safe. I’m happy
that Claire keeps me in line. Claire is brilliant in respect of motivation and
keeping me as safe as possible. The staff at the Braunstone Leisure Centre (Leicester)
are aware of my health situation and are supportive. They have had to search the
building for me on a previous occasion when I became very unwell and went
missing. Thankfully I wear a GPS Tracker around my neck, through which the
Police are able to track me and assist me when the need arises.
After Claire left for the day, I had
another seizure and I spent time studying the papers for the forthcoming
meeting of Full Council at Braunstone Town Council & Leicester Forest East Parish Council of which I am an elected member (he
says with an enormous amount of pride.)
The week has passed by so quickly – blink and
you miss it.

Ward Walkabouts in Winstanley Ward, Braunstone Town (24/02/2020)
This afternoon Councillor David Di Palma went on a ward walkabouts on Winstanley Ward, Braunstone Town to catch up with some of the Parishioners where he met some local residents and business owners to discuss topics of interest. The common theme throughout his walkabouts was environmental and green issues.
Don't forget this Thursday. 27th February, there's a Bye-election for Millfield Ward - Blaby District Council, and Millfied Ward - Braunstone Town Council. Make sure you get out there and vote, it's your right, USE IT!

Braunstone Town Council By-election - Millfield Ward
On Thursday 27th February 2020 there is a
By-election for Braunstone Town Council’s Millfield Ward seat. I would like to see Bettina Atkinson succeed
in contesting the seat against Leanne Lee as I think Bettina would offer an
alternative perspective to the ruling party.
Blaby District Council By-election for Millfield Ward, Braunstone Town.
In addition to the Braunstone Town Council
By-election for Millfield Ward, there will be a Blaby District Council
By-election for Millfield Ward, Braunstone Town. Having contested against
candidate Christiane Startin-Lorent at the 2019 Local Elections for Winstanley
Ward, Braunstone Town (including Thorpe Astley) for the Blaby District Council seat I really hope
that Christiane will defeat the other candidates in this election as I think
Christiane is the best candidate for the job and has a lot more to offer
Braunstone Town compared with the other candidates.
My name is David Di Palma, I’m an
Independent Councillor and proud.
